Hiding "in" God

“So, the Lord God called out to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” And he said, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, so I hid.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:9-10‬

Hide and seek has never been at the top of my list for the most fun games. I have to admit, when playing with my kids I try to pick the most secret hiding place because I don’t want to be found so easily. I savor those few minutes hidden.

This proved true in “real life” as well. For many years I was a body merely existing in places. Present, but unseen. Invited, but unknown. Satisfied because hiding was comfortable. Like Adam, I covered myself out of fear of exposure.

I believe God has been calling out to me for many years, asking where I am? When is the real Ashley going to show up? He’s known her before the foundation of the world, it’s not like He has been waiting to see who she is. He already knows because He designed her that way.

But like Adam I thought I was safer hiding myself, especially the shameful and dirty parts. I believed those parts made me not good enough for God. But God calls out to Adam not because He can't find him, but because He wants Adam to come closer. To be near Him still. Yes, with all of his newfound sin, God desires intimacy with Adam.

Hiding within ourselves diminishes our spirits and our souls. It stunts our growth. We never become who we were created to be if we preserve what was meant to be liberated.

May I gently remind you? You don’t have to protect yourself. Freedom exists when we live in our identity as image-bearers of our God who needs no protection.

“For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent, He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭27:5‬ ‭

Hide in God. He is with you IN the day of trouble. He’s not just waiting to rescue you afterwards. He holds you steady as He lifts you from what’s trying to overtake you.

You can rest from being your own internal gatekeeper. God has got you covered, literally.

🌟 It’s time to come out of hiding. What coverings do you need to remove?
